Champions of Business – True Stories Episodes

Champions of Business Awards programme is an initiative of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce and presented annually. It was introduced in 2005 with the first induction to the Business Hall of Fame.

The programme was expanded and rebranded in 2014 as the Champions of Business. It currently encompasses the 4-part made for TV series “Champions of Business True Stories” and the live Gala Awards Finale.

The Awards celebrate excellence and capture a spectrum of achievements in business enterprise that includes small business development, creativity, innovation, technology development, sustainability, internationalisation and legacy. Each category is hinged on both business acumen and corporate responsibility. The Award categories are tailored to individuals and companies and are open to Trinidad and Tobago entities, whether they are members of the T&T Chamber or non-members. These Awards are truly aligned to the ethos and visions of the T&T Chamber and our partner sponsors who all have taken the opportunity to honour the outstanding individuals and corporations shaping our nation’s pride.

Each year, the stories of the award recipients are featured in “True Stories,” which highlights their journeys across all award categories. It captures the successes, challenges, and setbacks they faced while building their businesses. Following this, a live show is held to present the awards in person.

With the exception of the Business Hall of Fame and Innovation Finalists, the winners in all categories are only revealed at the Gala Awards Finale, a live show featuring all Award recipients, the key people who have supported them, and category sponsors.

The Champions of Business True Stories air on CNC3 weekly on Wednesdays on October 2, 9, 16 and November 1, 2024. Re-runs can also be seen on October 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2024.

The Champions of Business Gala Awards Finale will take place on November 7, 2024, at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) beginning 6:30 p.m.

The Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) has pioneered an innovative approach to tyre recycling with the establishment of a small-scale rubber crumb plant at the UTT San Fernando Campus. This plant converts used tyres into rubber crumb and powder, which are then used in various applications, including rubberized asphalt for road paving. The initiative, launched in January 2024, has already seen a successful test paving in Tunapuna. CARIRI’s collaboration with local and international bodies, including the Basel Convention Regional Centre and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa, supports ongoing research and market development for rubber crumb and downstream products. This project addresses environmental challenges by reducing waste tyre disposal, contributing to road durability, and fostering new business opportunities. CARIRI also integrates this innovation into its wider ESG efforts, which include youth programs and sustainability training.
