Masters of Industry Lunch and Learn Series 2019: Edition 1

For our 1st Edition of this year’s Masters of Industry Lunch N’ Learn Series, we are embracing the Carnival season, shifting the paradigm and shaking things up as we jump, wave and wine with our first Master, the Queen of Bacchanal herself, the indomitable Destra Garcia,

Successful entrepreneurs and leaders come from all walks of life and all industries but they all tend to share the same traits of talent, hard work and dogged determination. In the world of Soca, few have the talent or drive of Destra Garcia.

The grand-daughter of the jazz musician Frankie Garcia, and the daughter of the accomplished guitarist Lloyd Garcia, Destra was always drawn to music and first showcased her talents in high school where she won the school’s Calypso Monarch title for five consecutive years. She burst on to the national stage in 1999 with Roy Cape All-Stars and went on to headline for the band Atlantik, churning out such hits as “Whe Yuh Want”, “Negative Vibes” and “Bonnie & Clyde”. In 2003 Destra released her first album Red, White, Black which included her hit duet “It’s Carnival” with fellow Soca artist Machel Montano. The song became the virtual anthem of Trinidad and Tobago carnival that year and is widely known throughout the Caribbean and by extension, the world.

In all, Destra has now released eleven albums,  and won many awards and accreditations including fifteen Soca Awards and five COTT awards (Best Female Songwriter 2004-2007 & Best Pan Song 2006), Best Female Soca Performer at the IRAWMA awards, and Best International Act at the Black Canadian Awards.

As the most requested female Soca artist in the world, Destra has shared the stage with international superstars like the Heather Headley, Sean Paul, Shaggy, Ja-Rule,  Enrique Iglesias, Rihanna, Mary J Blidge, Patti La Belle, Natalie Cole, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder and Beyonce.

Please join us for this amazing opportunity to be a part of an intimate lunch, along with other future leaders and artists, to ask questions and learn how Destra has beaten the odds to make herself a global success.
