The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce is deeply disappointed by recent statements made by the Honourable Minister of Works and Transport regarding the termination of the contract for the delivery of the Ocean Flower 2 passenger ferry.

Since April of this year, the Tobago Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce (T&T Chamber), has been closely monitoring the unfolding events surrounding inter-island transportation. Prior to that, the Tobago Division warned the authorities of the likelihood of total chaos on the ports, if provisions for appropriate and effective sea transport were not firmly established. Unfortunately, the advice was not heeded and the people of Trinidad and Tobago – and more so, Tobago – are currently paying the price for the failure on the part of the authorities.
The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce was saddened to learn of the passing of the former Chief Executive Officer of Scotiabank, Ronald Chan. Mr. Chan was known within the business community as an innovator and trailblazer in the field of banking, and a man who piloted the bank through the economic recession of the 1980s.
The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce was deeply saddened to learn today of the passing of Dr. Anthony N. Sabga, ORTT – businessman extraordinaire and patriarch of the Sabga family of Trinidad and Tobago. We extend our sincerest sympathies to his family, close friends and relatives.
It comes as no surprise to us, at the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, that the Superfast Galicia is being pulled from the inter-island transport service. Since December 1, 2016, it had been well documented that the vessel was scheduled to operate on a route in the Mediterranean Sea in May 2017.
The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce wishes to announce the appointment of Mr. Ronald Hinds as President of the T&T Chamber, with effect from March 22, 2017. Mr. Hinds, former Senior Vice President of the T&T Chamber, intends to continue working alongside CEO, Mr. Gabriel Faria and immediate Past President Mr. Robert Trestrail to lead the way forward.
