About the Conference

 

Bridging the Digital Divide is a conference facilitated by the TT Chamber’s NOVA Committee and the Caribbean Chambers of Commerce (CARICHAM). It targets all owners and operators of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and has at its focus strategies, solutions, and discussions to provide awareness and knowledge on all things digital for MSMEs.

This Conference will happen over the course of 2 days and will feature:

  • Industry leaders in thought provoking panel discussion.
  • Digital experts sharing strategies and experiences for digital transition.
  • Vendor exhibitions providing digital solutions for adoption.

Call to Action: The ICC Campaign to end the pandemic in the Caribbean

ICC Vaccination Campaign

The T&T Chamber initiated discussion on this regional initiative with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in collaboration with the CARICOM Private Sector Organisation and CARICHAM as we  wanted  to raise awareness with the regional private sector on their role in supporting their government’s Vaccine Campaigns.
 
On April 28, 2021 we held a free  webinar “Call to Action The ICC Campaign to end the pandemic in the Caribbean. 
 
The ICC  represents over 45 million businesses in over 100 countries. They have been  very active in advocacy efforts related to COVID-19 including  advocacy to support the fair distribution of vaccines, addressing vaccine hesitancy and the development of the icc- aokpass among others.

John Denton AO
Secretary General, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)

John W.H. Denton AO is the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). He is a global business leader and international advisor on policy and a legal expert on international trade and investment. He is also a Board member of the United Nations Global Compact and Co-chair of the B20 finance and infrastructure taskforce, as well as a founding member of the Business 20 (B20), the Australia–China CEO Roundtable and UNHCR in Australia. Mr Denton serves on the Board of leading global infrastructure group IFM Investors.

Mr. Denton is also the Chair of the Asia Pacific advisory Board of Veracity, a global advisory group based in NYC and Chair of the Moeller Institute advisory board at Cambridge University. He co-led the Australian Government’s 2012 White Paper on “Australia in the Asian Century” and previously chaired the APEC Finance and Economics Working Group. A former diplomat, Mr Denton served for two decades as Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Australia’s leading independent law firm. In 2015, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to the business community, the arts and the rights of refugees, including as a founder of Human Rights Watch (Australia) and Teach for Australia. Mr. Denton is an alumnus of Harvard Business School and the University of Melbourne.

 

Dr. James Fitzgerald
PAHO

Since 2014 James Fitzgerald is Director of Health Systems and Services, PAHO/WHO, overseeing the development of the regional Universal Health Coverage agenda with specific focus on health policy and governance, health systems and services organization, human resources for health, financing in health, and access to medicines and health technologies. Before that he coordinated PAHO regional work program in the Americas in Medicines and Health Technologies (2008 – 2013).

Fitzgerald is a national of Ireland, obtained his Bachelor in Science, Pharmacy and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Dublin, Ireland. Commencing his career in the pharmaceutical industry, he later joined the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) where he has worked as advisor in policy issues relating to access and regulation of  medicines and health technologies in Haiti, Brazil and PAHO headquarters, Washington DC USA.

 

Maaike Arts
UNICEF

Maaike Arts is the Regional Adviser, Survive & Thrive for UNICEF’s Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Office (LACRO) in Panama. She leads a team of sectoral specialists and provides assistance and guidance to 24 UNICEF country offices and Governmental and non-governmental stakeholders on health, nutrition and HIV matters affecting children, adolescents and women in the region. She started in Panama in June 2019.

Prior to this, Ms. Arts worked as Nutrition Specialist in UNICEF’s New York Headquarters and worked in UNICEF’s Country Offices in Mozambique, Viet Nam, Honduras and Pakistan in the areas of HIV, Early Childhood Development, Primary Health Care and Nutrition, with the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation in Mozambique and with the International Babyfood Action Network in The Netherlands.

Born in The Netherlands, Ms. Arts obtained a Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition from the Agricultural University of Wageningen, The Netherlands.

 

Damien Bruckard
Deputy Director, Trade and Investment
International Chamber of Commerce

Damien Bruckard is Deputy Director of Trade and Investment at the International Chamber of Commerce. Damien manages much of ICC’s work on trade and health, including with the World Trade Organization and World Health Organization. Prior to joining ICC, Damien was a diplomat, trade negotiator, lawyer and foreign policy advisor at the Australian foreign ministry.

 

Andrew Wilson
Permanent Observer of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) to the United Nations

Andrew Wilson is the Permanent Observer of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) to the United Nations. As the head of ICC’s Global Policy and External Affairs functions, Mr. Wilson oversees ICC’s engagement with international organizations and processes, including the United Nations, the European Union, the World Trade Organization and the Group of 20. He is also leading ICC’s COVID-19 response and recovery strategy.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Wilson was, from 2015 to 2018, Chief of Staff and Director of Global Communications at ICC’s headquarters in Paris. During his tenure, he ran numerous global campaigns, including ICC’s application to obtain Permanent Observer status to the UN General Assembly.

Prior to joining ICC’s Global Team, he held several roles at ICC United Kingdom, including Interim Executive Director and Director of Policy. He also held policy roles in the private sector and the Government of the United Kingdom.

Andrew holds degrees from the London School of Economics and the University of Leeds.

 

Scott C. Ratzan
Distinguished Lecturer
Executive Director, CONVINCE USA

Scott C. Ratzan, is the first Distinguished Lecturer at CUNY SPH bringing three decades of pioneering accomplishments domestically and globally in health communication, health literacy and strategic diplomacy.

He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Health Communication: International Perspectives, established in 1995. He recently was Senior Fellow at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at Harvard Kennedy School where he published “Guiding Principles for Multisector Engagement for Sustainable Health (MESH) and a series of published articles related to vaccine communication in the Washington Post, Financial Tines, JAMA and Lancet Infectious Disease.
He currently serves on the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Board on Global Health, the RAND Health Advisory Board, and World Information Transfer, Inc. a UN accredited NGO.His experience has been in multiple sectors including development of multisectoral approaches to reduce harmful drinking, restrictions on tobacco, and promotion women and children’s health. His prior global roles were in Brussels and New Jersey with Johnson & Johnson, ABInBev in New York, and also at the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Washington DC. He has also served as Co-Chair of the UN Secretary General’s Innovation Working Group in support of Every Woman Every Child as Vice Chair of the Business Industry Advisory Council’s Health Committee to the OECD, on the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Well-Being and Mental Health.
He was appointed to serve on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Board of Scientific Counselors for the Office of Infectious Disease. Dr. Ratzan is a co-author of the term health literacy adopted by HHS and integrated in the Affordable Care Act, defined as “the degree to which an individual has the capacity to obtain, communicate, process, and understand basic health information and services to make appropriate health decisions.”His books include the Mad Cow Crisis: Health and the Public Good, Attaining Global Health: Challenges and Opportunities, and AIDS: Effective Health Communication for the 90s.Scott has an M.D. from the University of Southern California, an M.P.A. from the Harvard Kennedy School, and an M.A. in Communication from Emerson College. His academic appointments include Adjunct Professor at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy, Tufts University School of Medicine, and George Washington University School of Public Health. 

 

María Merchán Rocamora
International Chamber of Commerce
Consultant

María Merchán Rocamora is a consultant for ICC’s work with ICC AOKpass. 

She focuses on the implementation of pilots in Spanish-speaking countries, and has experience with Governments in the Central America and Caribbean region.
A Spanish national, María is a graduate from the Master in International Public Management of the Paris School of International Affairs, and holds a double degree in Law and Economics.
