Communications Committee
The Communications Committee which meets fortnightly, has been in existence for more than fifteen years, having first been established in the mid 1980s under the presidency of Joe Pires, Snr. Previously called the Editorial Committee, it was formed to ensure that the Chamber could have a public voice for its opinions on a regular basis.
The Committee’s role is to formulate and execute the Chamber’s Communications Policy, with specific reference, but not limited to Contact Magazine, three weekly newspaper columns, media releases and various electronic bulletins.
The Contact Magazine is thematic so that two-thirds of the articles explore the various issues related to the particular theme. Contact is mailed to members of the Chamber and also distributed via the Trinidad Guardian. Complimentary copies are given to Government and the Diplomatic Corps.
The main issues that form the basis for the Chamber’s lobby efforts are largely reflected in its publications and radio programmes. Writing on the premise that all issues that affect the national landscape affect business, the main themes of articles have included the Economy, Trade, Crime, Education, Health and Poverty.
The Communications Committee which includes members of the Board, is chaired by the Chamber’s President. This Committee nominates writers from the Chamber’s Standing committees, the general membership and other professional writers to submit articles for review.
